Submission by CEHAT towards Call by UN Special Rapporteur onMistreatment and violence against women during reproductive health care with a focus on childbirth
Mistreatment and violence against women during reproductive health care and facility-based childbirth is gaining recognition globally as a grave violation of women’s human rights. In this regard, the United Nations appointed a Special Rapporteur to obtain perspectives on this issue from States, non-governmental organizations, National Human Rights Institutions and members of academia. Addressing violence against women forms one of CEHAT’s core working areas. CEHAT made a submission towards the Call for submissions: Mistreatment and violence against women during reproductive health care with a focus on childbirth by the UN Special Rapporteur. It speaks of the manifestations of mistreatment against women in reproductive healthcare, the accountability systems or lack thereof to prevent the same, and steps taken to address the issue of violence against women in the country, and was based on CEHAT's research and interventions on the field to address the issue of violence against women. This submission has also been uploaded on the UN website of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (Link:https://www.ohchr.org/EN/Issues/Women/SRWomen/Pages/Mistreatment.aspx).
