Post of Counsellor to respond to survivors of violence

CEHAT has been working with the health system to improve the healthcare response to violence against women and children. We have reached out to over 3000 survivors over the past 16 years and have established an evidence-based model of intervention that has been recognised at the national and international levels. The model, first set up at K.B.Bhabha Hospital, Bandra, is currently replicated at 11 peripheral hospitals in Mumbai. We partner with three public hospitals to offer comprehensive healthcare response to sexual violence.

We are currently looking for an interventionist with two years of experience of having engaged with various stakeholders and formal systems such as the police, hospital, child welfare committee and public prosecutors. The role requires crisis intervention at the hospital with an understanding of the role of healthcare providers vis. a vis. violence against women, and interface with other agencies towards ensuring a holistic response. The role provides a unique opportunity to actively reach out to survivors of violence and work towards implementing best practice through quality interventions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Crisis counselling for survivors of Sexual Violence and Domestic Violence in person and over the telephone.
  2. Facilitation and coordination of multi-agency response (such as health care professionals, police, legal aid, shelter services, follow-up for emotional support) to respond to survivors of Sexual Violence and Domestic Violence.
  3. Carry out documentation through drafting of case studies, reports and articles.
  4. Be a part of the training and research team and undertake relevant activities on the issue of VAW

Qualifications:

Post Graduate in social work / social sciences/ psychology.

Essential Skills:

  • Fluency in Hindi, English, Marathi, possessing excellent communication skills - oral and written
  • Sound perspective on the issue of Violence Against Women in general and Domestic and Sexual Violence in particular

Preference will be given to women candidates

Remuneration: Will commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be between Rs. 38,000/- to Rs. 40,000/-

Vacancy for health systemís research project for mid-level researchers

Location: Mumbai

CEHAT is engaged in various projects around the theme of health systems and services research, health rights etc. Presently, the health systemís team is working on the study of publically financed health insurance scheme in Maharashtra. A national conference is planned around the theme of government funded health insurance schemes in India. In addition, CEHAT is also planning to conduct a study on emergency medical care in Maharashtra in the coming months. CEHAT also has a web portal dedicated to patientsí rights which acts as a platform for the patients to share their experiences with the healthcare sector.

In this regard, CEHAT is looking for eligible candidates who would be able to take on different activities related to the conference and also work on the research study around emergency care.

Job Responsibilities include:

  1. Good research skills with an overall perspective about public health.
  2. Ability multitasking and taking initiative
  3. Undertake various research activities independently
  4. Understanding of the issue of patientsí rights, facilitating with patients with medical grievance to certain extent.
  5. Good writing skills are essential

Qualifications:

Post Graduate in public health, social work, sociology, or allied fields, with relevant 2 to 3 yearsí experience.

Remuneration: Will commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be between Rs. 46,000/- to Rs. 48,000/-
