Vacancy for the post of Counsellor to Respond to Survivors of Violence

CEHAT has been working with the health system to improve the healthcare response to violence against women and children. We have reached out to over 3000 survivors over the past 18 years and have established an evidence-based model of intervention that has been recognised at the national and international levels. The model, first set up at K.B.Bhabha Hospital, Bandra, is currently replicated at 11 peripheral hospitals in Mumbai. We partner with three public hospitals to offer comprehensive healthcare response to sexual violence. We also provide round-the-clock telephonic support to survivors reaching the hospital.

CEHAT invites applications  from dynamic professionals for the post of  counsellor . The role expected is to provide crisis counselling and navigate different systems such as the health system, police and legal systems for those facing violence. 


Post Graduate / Graduate  in social work / social sciences/ psychology. The candidate should be fluent in Hindi, English, Marathi, possessing excellent communication skills - oral and written, and must have a sound perspective on the issue of Violence Against Women in general and Domestic and Sexual Violence in particular.

Preference will be given to women candidates from minority caste and religion backgrounds.

Job Responsibilities and key areas of work:

  • Crisis counselling for survivors of Sexual Violence and Domestic Violence in person and over the telephone.
  • Share helpline responsibilities for crisis support 
  • Facilitation coordination and engagement with  multi-agency response (such as health care professionals, police, legal aid, shelter services, follow-up for emotional support) to respond to survivors of Sexual Violence and Domestic Violence.
  • Develop case studies and undertake documentation  in the form of  reports and articles.-

Salary will be commensurate with experience starting from Rs. 51000/-
