On the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8th March, Dilaasa centres initiated different activities to create awareness on the issue of Violence against Women (VAW). The efforts to mitigate violence during lockdown period, efforts made by Dilaasa team to ensure that women received care and services were also highlighted. As physical distancing had to be practiced, the focus was on showing films, poster competitions and health talks were conducted by the teams.
We received an overwhelming response to it. VAW has spiked in times of COVID and lockdown. Health providers continue to be the first point of contact. This underscores the need for creation of awareness of counselling services, which was rendered by hospital-based crisis centres.
